Overview
The topographical survey of Mansion House Station, situated in the City of London, was entrusted to TopoCrew. Our team was tasked with conducting a comprehensive survey, encompassing all highway-level features, along with a thorough survey of the soffit, wall outlines, and public convenience structures within the subway network.
Approach
To ensure an accurate quotation, one of our engineers was assigned by the Project Manager to conduct an initial visit and capture videos of the survey area. Fortunately, we have engineers working in or near the City of London on a daily basis, facilitating a swift assessment of the area's condition.
Once commissioned, we were well-prepared and deployed three teams to complete the survey. The highway team consisted of two engineers: one focused on surveying the road, while the other examined the footway elements. Both engineers utilised Leica TS12 Total Station to conduct their surveys. Simultaneously, an additional engineer surveyed the soffit and wall outline elements using the same equipment.
The third team encountered a minor challenge while surveying the public convenience structure due to inadequate lighting. However, with the assistance of a survey assistant, we promptly resolved the issue and successfully completed the survey within a day.
Topographical Survey Results
Our diligent efforts yielded highly detailed topographical survey drawings, presented in both a flattened 2D map and a 3D model. These deliverables can be seamlessly imported into major design software, including Autodesk Civil3D. The following CAD drawings were provided to the client:
A comprehensive 2D topographical drawing, featuring the ground surface of the highway, with subway floor boundaries clearly indicated.
A 3D drawing specifically showcasing the ground surface of the highway.
A separate 3D drawing highlighting the subway and public convenience areas.
The entire project was completed in under two weeks, with the survey itself concluding within a mere three days, inclusive of the final site check validation process.
Conclusion
We take great pride in the successful and timely completion of this project, well within the designated deadline and budget. The high-quality drawings we delivered garnered positive feedback from the client, who expressed their satisfaction with the following comments:
"I was very pleased with the topo and subway survey carried out (cost, speed and quality) and would have no hesitation in using TopoCrew again or recommending to others"
We are pleased to know that our commitment to delivering exceptional drawings, while remaining cost and time-efficient, has been recognised and appreciated.
