A solid foundation for your urban and suburban construction projects of any size and complexity
SETTING OUT
Setting Out for Successful Construction
Setting-out marks the first step of any construction project, providing accurate layout markings to guide excavation and building works. Since 2009, we have been providing precise setting out services for highways and other major projects in London. Our team of engineers possesses extensive expertise in the field of highways and structures. Our dedicated CAD team consistently provides CAD support to the on-site engineers to detect any potential discrepancies early, prevent delays, and ensure error-free construction for your project.
After you send us the design package for your project, our CAD team processes the drawings and prepares the data for uploading into our instruments. We also create bespoke drawings to ensure that the on-site team receives exactly the information they need. Using CAD drawings and specialist surveying software significantly reduces the risk of human error.
During the preparation phase, we thoroughly assess buildability of your project by meticulously examining proposed levels and gradients. Any uncertainties are promptly resolved through collaboration with you, the designers and all relevant parties. This thorough and proactive approach helps us to identify and address any issues well in advance, preventing potential delays.
In the case of design updates, our office team reacts immediately and efficiently processes all revised drawings in CAD software. The latest data is then transferred into our settings-out engineers' instruments via cloud-based applications.
Minimising Risk and Maximising Efficiency in Setting Out
Meet Our Core Setting Out Team
Our London team of site engineers has a remarkable level of expertise and seniority. With over a decade of experience, their knowledge spans across all construction phases and methods, which sets them apart from other engineers. They are skilled at using range of surveying equipment and understand the importance of communicating effectively with everyone involved in a project.
After completing necessary setting-out tasks, they ensure comprehensive delivery of results to your team. They diligently walk through your site, explaining the meaning behind all markings, and remain on site until they have ensured that your team understands the markings and how to use them effectively.
Our engineers efficiently visit an average of 3-6 sites per day within Central London. Recognising that time is critical, they immediately commence work, quickly grasping project requirements and immersing themselves in new tasks. This ensures seamless engagement with any new project.
We guarantee continuity and minimise disruptions during a project thanks to our standardised methods and a robust team of engineers. In case of illness or another unforeseen event, we can assign another engineer of comparable expertise to provide reliable cover. This ensures uninterrupted operations and smooth progression of your project .

Project Plan and Delivery
To comply with safety regulations, we avoid using road pins for setting out purposes. Instead, we use offset marks, which are more durable and offer enhanced longevity. By using these markings, we ensure that laid kerbs, for example, can always be cross-checked against them. This approach reduces the risk of accidental displacement of road pins or the loss of markings. As a result, our engineers do not need to revisit the site to repeat the setting out process, saving you money.
Staying on Point with Offset Marks
“TopoCrew’s understanding of the design not only helps when translating 2D and 3D setting out information to contractors but they actively help during the construction process and can advise of forthcoming issues they may have noticed during the preparation of digital setting out information. Such collaborative working was crucial between the City of London, Riney, and TopoCrew during the construction of the City of London’s largest ever scheme, Aldgate.”

“I have had the pleasure of working with TopoCrew in Watford for nearly 2 years now. Their knowledge and professionalism is second to none and I look forward to working with them for the foreseeable future. What I like most about these guys, apart from their reliability and their attention to detail, is that they challenge the design. They ask questions at the right time and they assist the delivery team to solve problems before they happen. They are a client’s dream! I would highly recommend using TopoCrew’ s services as you would be in safe, reliable hands!”

“TopoCrew have provided assistance in solving problems on site and are very forthcoming to provide ideas on how to resolve any issues. They are always reliable in the service they provide and have dealt with challenging situations calmly, safely and professionally. We know the service they will provide, which is safe, quality and professional. The most memorable job together was the Race of Champions, track construction / removal – very high profile, and high pressure scheme where they provided a quality service.”
